Holst, Humperdink, Handel, and Haydn
Off to the fair they did go ridin'.
They thought they belonged there.
Everyday at the State Fair.
4-H'ers could play music by them.

Marci Martinson, St. Paul, MN

There once was a composer named Ives.
To the fair he went to exhibit his chives.
Not taking first place,
he left in disgrace.
Listen! You can still hear his soft cries.

Mike Wenzel, Forest Lake, MN

Bach played the organ with astounding ease.
Yet, at the fair he overdosed on curds of cheese.
He said with a grin,
As he licked off his chin.
"Another round of those cardiac cloggers, please."

Mike Wenzel, Forest Lake, MN

Bernstein composed with dramatic flair.
And off he went to the Minnesota Fair.
Straight to the west side,
he enjoyed a fast ride.
But all that food? "I do not dare!"

Mike Wenzel, Forest Lake, MN

Grieg wanted to go see the cattle.
So off to the barns he'd skedaddle.
But the smell was as bad
As the hall of Troll Dad.
So he left to go watch Jim Ed prattle.

Marci Martinson, St. Paul, MN

Tchaikovsky went to the State Fair
as he heard Sleeping Beauty was there.
He said to the doll
carved of a butter ball,
"Will the fair prince find you in St. Paul?

Juanita Garciagodoy, Minneapolis, MN

To our fair came Jacques Offenbach,
To see cars whizz round the auto track,
He drank a cold beer,
And said "you wait here"
I'll get cheese curds then I'll be back.

Tom Bednar, New Brighton, MN

Beethoven got lost at the fair today.
But when he heard Julie Amacher say,
"I'm glad you're here."
Music for even a deaf ear.
Judson & Nelson were just up the way.

Dennis Hayes, Eden Praire, MN

To the fair talent show came Beethoven,
In ridiculously green lederhosen.
With a frown on his face,
He came in first place,
With a piano piece he had chosen

Karen Voy, St. Paul, MN

There once was a man Johann Bach
Who wasn't well-known as a jock
But at the State Fair
He laid his soul bare
And made that old Grandstand just rock!

Nancy Saros, Brooklyn Park, MN
