Radio Talking Book

Wherever you hear Minnesota Public Radio's classical music stations, a very special audio service is also being delivered to thousands of disabled Minnesotans. It's called Radio Talking Book (RTB). For many years RTB has been distributed on a special sub-carrier of Minnesota Public Radio's classical music stations to visually impaired persons in Minnesota and border communities of Wisconsin, North and South Dakota, and Iowa, free of charge. Providing access to current local and statewide newspapers, magazine articles and best-selling books, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, reaching nearly 8,000 listeners who rely upon it to help them live independent lives. Minnesota Public Radio is proud to play a role in distributing this service to the disabled.

Operated by the Minnesota State Services for the Blind, a division of the Minnesota Department of Economic Security, Radio Talking Book relies on staff and volunteers in St. Paul, St. Cloud, Duluth, Fergus Falls, and Mankato for a unique service: to read the news from local newspapers to listeners who are unable to read it themselves.
