WHAT IS IT?

A Prairie Home Companion is once again giving away FOUR GRAND PRIZE TRIPS to see a live broadcast from the program's home base, the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, during the thrilling, chilling season of a Minnesota winter on either Jan. 25, Feb. 1, or Feb. 8. And don't worry, because we'll provide you with the promos and fundraising spots. All you do is answer the phones. (Plan to have more phone volunteers than usual: You could double the volume of calls!)

During their Saturday in St. Paul, winners can sit in on A Prairie Home Companion's script rehearsal, eat supper backstage with the cast and crew, and then view the live broadcast from their seats right on stage at the Fitzgerald Theater.

WHO'S ELIGIBLE?

Your station is eligible if you carry A Prairie Home Companion and are doing a FALL FUNDRAISER ANYTIME BETWEEN SEPT. 15 AND DEC. 1. Anyone who calls in during your fall fundraising broadcasts of A Prairie Home Companion is eligible to win. (Contact your station's legal advisor for regulations in your state and information regarding winners' tax liability.) Listeners must have called in by Sunday, Dec. 1. Stations must send qualifying names, each typed or printed on a 3" x 5" white note card, to A Prairie Home Companion by Friday, Dec. 6, for inclusion in the drawing. All entries must be submitted on a standard 3"x 5" white note card, or else they will be automatically disqualified. NO PICTURE POSTCARDS ALLOWED!

Giveaway Details

WHAT EXACTLY IS THE PRIZE?

Each Grand Prize is a package for two participants: two round-trip airfares from your nearest Northwest Airlines hub city to Minneapolis/St. Paul. One double room for two nights at The Saint Paul Hotel, a four-star, four-diamond hotel in downtown St. Paul (a few blocks from the Fitzgerald Theater).

WHAT ABOUT THE SHOW TICKETS?

Winners receive two tickets to a live broadcast on Jan. 25, Feb. 1, or Feb. 8, and dinner with the cast and crew.

How do our listeners enter in this drawing? We need a single 3" x 5" white note card (WHITE ONLY!) for each listener entered. Each card MUST contain the following information:
• Listener's name
• Address
• Telephone number
• Public radio station (your station)

Submit one note card for each listener who called in during your fundraising broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion. You may want to fill out the cards as the listeners call in, or print them up from your database. A printed mailing label for each member is fine, but you must include the phone number as well as your station call letters and location, and it must be pasted on to a plain 3"x5" white note card.

WILL THIS TRIP BE MENTIONED IN THE BODY OF THE FUNDRAISING SHOW?

No. Since some stations will not be participating, Garrison Keillor does not mention it during the module-style fundraiser show. Promos that mention the giveaway will be fed separately.

WILL OUR LISTENERS BE FLOWN TO MINNESOTA?

Listeners will be able to pick any one of the following broadcasts from Saint Paul: January 25, February 1, or 8, 2002. Please keep in mind that there may be some necessary date juggling for flight availability.

HOW WILL LISTENERS BE NOTIFIED?

Tell your listeners to tune in for the Dec. 14 live broadcast, when Garrison Keillor will draw names and announce the four winners. We will also call your listener at the phone number(s) listed on the winning card, and we will notify the station listed on each card. (In other words, yes, you will know if your listeners win a trip.)

DO CALLERS ACTUALLY HAVE TO PLEDGE?

Many state laws stipulate that you have to allow any caller to enter the contest, whether or not they pledge. You'll want to check with legal counsel on this and other guidelines for this contest. According to past history with contests like this, there may be a very few callers who don't pledge, but most people will pledge. And the ones who don't pledge are good names to keep for future membership mailings.

WHAT ABOUT THE RULES?

Some stations need to post the rules in the studio and be able to give them out to listeners. Check with your legal counsel and if this applies in your state, see the official rules below.

How to Enter: Enter by calling your local public radio station during its fall fundraising broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion, aired on or before Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002. All pledges called in during this fundraising broadcast are automatically entered in the giveaway. It is not necessary to make a contribution to enter the giveaway. Your station will enter your name on a 3" x 5" white note card and send their entries in one package to APHC, c/o Minnesota Public Radio. No individual entries will be accepted. You must enter through your local public radio station.

Eligibility: Anyone can enter "A Prairie Home Companion's Trip Giveaway" except employees of Minnesota Public Radio and their related organizations, their immediate family, or persons living in the same household. The drawing is open to any United States resident. Void where prohibited by law.

Four Grand Prizes: Four grand prizes will be awarded. Each prizewinner receives: round-trip coach-class air transportation from your nearest Northwest Airlines hub to Minneapolis/St. Paul via Northwest Airlines for two (2) persons; two (2) nights hotel accommodations at The Saint Paul Hotel in downtown St. Paul; two (2) tickets to one of four broadcasts of A Prairie Home Companion (choose Jan. 25, Feb. 1, or Feb. 8, 2002); entry into pre-show rehearsal at the Fitzgerald Theater; supper with A Prairie Home Companion's cast before the broadcast. Retail value of entire package is up to $1800.

Selection and Notification of Winners: Four winners will be selected by random drawing during A Prairie Home Companion's live broadcast on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2001. Four backup names will be drawn by random drawing after the conclusion of A Prairie Home Companion's live broadcast. Winners will be notified by telephone or certified mail. The winners' public radio stations will be notified by telephone. If the winner is unable to collect the prize or if A Prairie Home Companion/MPR is unable to contact a winner within 30 days, the un-awarded prize will go to the first backup and subsequent backups thereafter until the prize is awarded. Winners must provide their social security number and sign a release and receipt for prize awarded. [Prize vouchers will be mailed by certified mail. General Rules: By participating in "A Prairie Home Companion's Trip Giveaway," participants agree to these official rules, and that A Prairie Home Companion/MPR and related organizations, their agents and employees will have no liability whatsoever for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind resulting from their use of prizes or their participation in the giveaway. Taxes and travel expenses exclusive of airfare, hotel accommodations, cast supper and show tickets are the responsibility of the winner.

Restrictions: Odds of winning depend on the number of entries. Departures can be on the Friday before the chosen broadcast (with returns on the subsequent Sunday). Tickets must be on Northwest Airlines, not Northwest Airlink carriers, and are subject to availability and blackout dates. Tickets cannot be upgraded to business class, nor are winners eligible to receive Northwest frequent flyer miles. By participating in "A Prairie Home Companion's Trip Giveaway," a participant agrees to be bound by these official rules, and by all decisions of the contest judges.
