Minnesota Public Radio News Adds Radio Heartland with Dale Connelly to Its Saturday Night Lineup Starting January 10

(St. Paul, Minn.)—January 6, 2009—Minnesota Public Radio today announced changes to the Saturday night programming heard on its News stations.
Starting January 10, Radio Heartland—the popular new music service spearheaded by former Morning Show co-host Dale Connelly—will broadcast 9-11 p.m. Saturday nights. It will feature Radio Heartland programming…except dressed up for a Saturday night. Unpretentious and fun, the Saturday show hosted by Connelly will feature songs by coffeehouse songwriters, jazz divas, Zydeco accordionists, Cajun fiddlers, Broadway stars, movie stars, ukulele virtuosos, big bands, string bands, cowboys and cornballs.
"Radio Heartland has been a success right out the gate," said Chris Worthington, programming director, MPR News. "Dale Connelly is a favorite personality to Minnesotans, so we're glad he can now join them on Saturday nights."
Radio Heartland will be heard in place of The Jazz Connection with Maryann Sullivan. The final broadcast of The Jazz Connection was January 3, 2009.
"We think Dale Connelly's show will better serve our audiences and appeal to a broader swath of our audiences," Worthington said. "It gives the entire state the chance to hear Dale Connelly and the music he's been playing for more than 25 years. Moreover, in the current economic climate, MPR is strategically cutting costs to align expenses with revenue to balance our budget."
