Minnesota Public Radio's Chief Operating Officer Jon McTaggart elected to NPR board of directors

Jon McTaggart, senior vice president and chief operating officer for Minnesota Public Radio and St. Paul-based American Public Media, has recently been elected to the NPR (National Public Radio) Board of Directors. His term began earlier this month.
NPR's board of directors is responsible for the governance of the corporation. The board sets the policies and overall priorities of NPR management, monitors its performance and provides financial oversight. The board consists of 17 directors, 10 of whom are managers of NPR member stations and are elected to the board by their fellow member stations. The seven remaining directors include the president of NPR, the chairman of the NPR Foundation and five prominent members of the public selected by the board and confirmed by NPR member stations.
McTaggart first joined American Public Media in 1982. Since serving as station manager of KCRB in Bemidji, McTaggart has served in a variety of positions of increasing responsibility at American Public Media. McTaggart serves on the executive management group and is the senior executive responsible for daily operations of American Public Media and Minnesota Public Radio. He is also president, CEO and vice chair of Classical South Florida. McTaggart also leads the services American Public Media provides its subsidiaries, including Southern California Public Radio in Los Angeles and Greenspring Company in Minneapolis.
Previously, McTaggart was vice president for advancement and university relations for La Sierra University, Riverside, Calif. He also served as director of strategic planning, communications, fundraising and business development for a community hospital in Reading, Penn., and as its foundation's director. McTaggart holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Bemidji State University and a master's degree in public administration from Kutztown University, Kutztown, Penn. He participates in many national public media organizations, including several advisory committees for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
McTaggart is also active in a number of community organizations locally, including the Minnesota Meeting Advisory Board, the Bemidji State University Foundation Board and the Cornerstone Community Center Board.
