Minnesota Public Radio's The Morning Show to Broadcast Final Show Live From The Fitzgerald Theater on Thursday, December 11

October 15, 2008

St. Paul, Minn (October 15, 2008)—This morning Dale Connelly and Tom Keith (aka Jim Ed Poole) announced that December 11 will be the final broadcast of The Morning Show on Minnesota Public Radio. The last show will be broadcast live from The Fitzgerald Theater in downtown St. Paul and will feature some of Dale and Tom's favorite musicians.

Dale Connelly and Jim Ed Poole have hosted The Morning Show together for more than 25 years. In the Twin Cities it's heard on 89.3 The Current® and in greater Minnesota, it's heard on Classical Minnesota Public Radio. Dale Connelly will continue to work at MPR using his considerable talents to create new programming to serve our audiences. Tom Keith is retiring from MPR but will continue to be heard as the primary sound effects provider for A Prairie Home Companion.®

"In May, Tom told us he planned to retire at the end of the year," said Steve Nelson, program director for The Current. "While we'll miss The Morning Show, we plan to offer our audiences more consistent programming on The Current and Classical Minnesota Public Radio. We appreciate the creative talent these hosts have provided listeners, and wish Tom all the best for his retirement."

"The Morning Show has been synonymous with Minnesota Public Radio, and it's been definitional to Minnesota's culture," said Sarah Lutman, senior vice president of Content and Media, for Minnesota Public Radio. "Over the years the show's musicians and guests have formed a 'who's who' in the Minnesota music and cultural scene. The show has a permanent place in our hearts and spirits, as well as a permanent place in our archive. We will keep the show's current archive on our Web site so listeners can continue to enjoy Jim Ed and Dale's special wit and humor. We will miss their insight and their companionship."

The Current will create morning drive-time programming that is consistent with the rest of The Current. In Greater Minnesota, Classical Minnesota Public Radio with Host John Birge will be heard from 6-9 a.m.

The final weeks of The Morning Show will be filled with special shows and fond farewells for Keith and Connelly in the roles audiences have enjoyed for so long.
