Minnesota Public Radio's Cara Hetland wins multiple awards in the 2007 South Dakota Associated Press Broadcast Contest

The winners of the 2007 South Dakota Associated Press Broadcasters' awards contest were announced recently, including several for Minnesota Public Radio's newsroom in the non-commercial radio category.

MPR news reporter Cara Hetland of Sioux Falls won first place in several award categories, including in the Features category for her piece "HPV," in the Writing category for "Asian Wasps" and in General Reporting for "The Execution."

The Minnesota Public Radio Web site, www.mpr.org, won first place in the Web site category.

Additionally, Hetland won honorable mentions in the General Reporting category for "Fetal Alcohol Syndrome—Science" and in the Series-Documentary category for "Fetal Alcohol Syndrome—The Invisible Disorder," which she co-wrote and produced with MPR reporter Tom Robertson and which won first place in the Minnesota Associated Press Awards. "Fetal Alcohol Syndrome" is a 14-part series providing an in-depth look at the effects of alcohol on an underserved and misunderstood population.
