On Feb. 5, Minnesota Public Radio's Midday will feature two hours of perspectives on this year's political campaigns. The program will broadcast a special Public Insight Forum event on issues that matter to voters on the presidential campaign, recorded from the night before, followed by a live discussion with Minnesota's leading DFL-party U.S. Senate candidates.
The first hour will be a broadcast of the Monday night event, with Washington University political scientist Steven Smith and Midday host Gary Eichten, who will explore the issues that motivate Minnesotans to get behind a candidate, to get out to the caucuses or even, perhaps, to stay away from the process.
For the second hour, Minnesota Public Radio's Midday program will feature three leading DFL candidates for U.S. Senate for a one-hour call-in program at noon on Super Tuesday, Feb. 5, hosted by Gary Eichten, during a special broadcast with an online video stream at www.mpr.org.
Coinciding with the DFL precinct caucuses on Feb. 5, Senate candidates Mike Ciresi, Al Franken and Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer will be available for questions from listeners over the phone or online via www.mpr.org.
Each DFL candidate has said he will rely on the delegates to the DFL state convention (Jun. 6–8) to decide the party's candidate. If the DFL convention endorses someone else, each has said he will not run in the primary in September.
