Full-powered Minnesota Public Radio news and information station to reach the Roseau/Warroad community by August 1
January 11, 2008
With help from Rep. Dave Olin (DFL–Thief River Falls) and Sen. Rod Skoe (DFL–Clearbrook), the Minnesota State Legislature and Governor Tim Pawlenty passed legislation in 2007 to authorize funds needed to build a new full-powered Minnesota Public Radio news and information station in the Roseau and Warroad communities.
The scheduled air date for KRXW 103.5 FM is August 1, 2008. Currently, the new station is in the construction phases and anticipates having a broadcast facility in place in its new location near Warroad by May 1.
Currently, a translator in Roseau repeats KQMN, which broadcasts Classical Minnesota Public Radio from a full-powered station in Thief River Falls. The new full-powered station enables Minnesota Public Radio to reach a much larger radius in northwest Minnesota, providing better accessibility to our services. Funding for the station was achieved in large part due to the efforts of Rep. Olin and Sen. Skoe.
Minnesota Public Radio® operates a 37-station radio network serving virtually all of Minnesota and parts of surrounding states and produces programming for radio, Internet and face-to-face audiences. Programs produced by Minnesota Public Radio, operating as American Public Media,™ reach 14.6 million listeners nationwide each week. Of those, more than 800,000 listen regionally, in Minnesota and surrounding states. A complete list of stations, programs and additional services can be obtained at www.mpr.org and www.americanpublicmedia.org.
