What: 89.3 The Current, from Minnesota Public Radio, will present "Rock the Cradle" at The Children's Theatre Company and Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) campus on Sunday, January 27, 2008.

Now in its third year, Rock the Cradle is a free day of family friendly music, fun and community involvement for kids and their grown-ups. Activities for the event let young kids (ages 0 - 8) and adults engage together and experience music through sound, movement, art, picking up an instrument and listening to live music performances.

The event has proved extremely successful, attracting more than 4500 attendees last year. To accommodate even more kids and their adults, this year's event has expanded into more parts of the Minneapolis Institute of Art and Children's Theatre Campus.

The popular kid's disco will return in an even bigger way; this year the dancing will get down in the entire Children's Theatre's Cargill space. The Current DJs will again read their favorite kids' storybooks aloud; this activity will be held in the Villa Rosa Activity Room on the third floor of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts — giving everyone even more room to move around and enjoy themselves.

Other signature activities include: the musical-instrument petting zoo; the DJ interview booth where kids can hear themselves "on the radio," and hip-hop dance classes provided by the YWCA in Minneapolis.

Attendees will also be treated to live music performances by local artists Desdamona w/ Carnage, Jeremy Messersmith and Honeydog's Adam Levy.

The Children's Theatre Company will provide space for a variety of activities, including a Kids' Disco, while the Minneapolis Institute of Arts will provide art-making activities and art carts throughout the building. We are also proud to once again present the blanket-making activity provided by the Greater Twin Cities United Way, offering a hands-on activity that benefits Casa de Esperanza, Home Free Battered Women's Service, Southside Family Nurturing Center and Washburn Child Guidance Center. Last year 200 blankets were created on site and distributed to deserving children through the United Way's network.
