Minnesota Public Radio announces the next live, in-studio recording date of its program, In the Loop, for Thursday, May 17, 2007 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

For this episode, In the Loop asks the question, "Does school prepare you for life?" Following MPR's recent News & Information series, "Is the American High School Obsolete?" this episode explores another angle on the issue, namely: How well are schools preparing kids for real life—and the rough-and-tumble world of human relationships? The things we learn—consciously and subconsciously—in our school years will affect how we relate to the world around us. Do schools do a good job of teaching us what the real world is like? Or do they give us a set of social skills that aren't much use outside the school walls?

In the Loop, dubbed "the show for people who talk back to their radios," is hosted by former MPR business news reporter Jeff Horwich and covers a single topic through multiple lenses, including the perspective of the listener. In the Loop typically focuses on a theme, such as the environment, immigration or politics, and applies irreverent humor and alternative points of view. Audience engagement punctuates each episode through listener-contributed songs, essays and conversations. For more information, visit www.mpr.org/intheloop.
