CANCELLED: Minnesota Public Radio Welcomes Political Satirist and Author Christopher Buckley To the American Humorist Series April 18
April 4, 2007
THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED.
WHAT: Christopher Buckley comes to Minnesota Public Radio's American Humorist Series on Wednesday, April 18 for an evening of politically engaged wit. Buckley will present some material from his new book, Boomsday, a wicked satire on the Social Security problem, as well as original material crafted specially for his American Humorist appearance.
A novelist and political satirist, Buckley is the founding editor of Forbes FYI, and was the chief speechwriter for George H. W. Bush. In addition to Boomsday, his novels include Thank You for Smoking: A Novel, God is My Broker, Little Green Men, The White House Mess, No Way to Treat a First Lady, Wet Work and Florence of Arabia. Thank You for Smoking was made into a feature film in 2006 and Little Green Men is currently being made into a film by Whit Stillman, with a scheduled release in 2008.
The son of William F. Buckley, Jr., Buckley is a political iconoclast. The New York Times refers to "the exquisitely dizzy, Wodehouse-style mischief that is his specialty." Buckley is the winner of the Thurber Prize for American Humor and the Washington Irving Medal for Literary Excellence, a regular contributor to The New Yorker magazine, and his satire and criticism has appeared in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, New Republic, Washington Monthly, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Esquire, and other publications.
Copies of Buckley's Boomsday are available to journalists upon request.
