The Story is daily interview program that brings the news home by sharing first-hand stories of individuals personally experiencing the events in the news in their own lives. The show is a passionate, personal and immediate program that inspires conversation and provides listeners with a deeper understanding of the lives of ordinary people.
The Story is real news and real people, fueled in part by sources from American Public Media's Public Insight Network. If the topic is health care, The Story interviews doctors and patients instead of experts and analysts. It's not experts in think tanks that will tell the story of the war in Iraq; it is soldiers and Iraqis who will share their personal experiences with listeners.
The Story is produced by North Carolina Public Radio–WUNC and is co-produced and distributed nationally by American Public Media.

About Stuart Bloom, M.D.
At the age of 20, Minnesota native Stuart Bloom set out for New York City in an effort to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. While in New York, he enjoyed a fair level of success landing regular acting roles in plays, touring with a Broadway show, performing stand-up and even writing a musical; but after a decade of working in the industry and realizing little fame or fortune, Bloom found himself questioning whether he was in the right line of work.
At the same time, his father was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Bloom took refuge in a book called Love, Medicine and Miracles. Reading this book changed his life and was ultimately the catalyst for his decision to abandon acting entirely and begin studying medicine.
Bloom completed his pre-med coursework and moved his family back to Minnesota to train and be with his father during the last two years of his live.
Twenty-two years after moving to New York, 42-year-old Bloom completed his medical training and began practicing hematology and oncology. Today, he runs the breast cancer program at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. He now uses many of the lessons he learned as an actor and says he's thankful for the perspective he's gained by coming late to medicine.
