The Current to Host Live Broadcasts and Guest Band Appearances from the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas

(St. Paul, Minn.)—February 26, 2007—The Current announced today that it will broadcast live on March 15 and 16 from the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas. An official SXSW event, The Current's two days of live broadcasts will be held at Buffalo Billiards, located at 6th and Congress streets in the thick of the festival action.
The Current's award-winning DJs Mary Lucia and Steve Seel will present festival updates and guest band appearances beginning at 11 a.m. CST both days of the SXSW broadcast. From afro beat to indie rock, electronica to hip hop talent culled from The Current's hometown in the Twin Cities, the broadcast will give its live audience and radio and Web listeners a peerless sampling of the festival.
The Current is heard on 89.3 KCMP FM in the Twin Cities, 88.7 KMSE in Rochester and via a live Web stream at thecurrent.org.

For the March 15 and 16 broadcasts, Steve Seel will host 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and Mary Lucia will host 3-7 p.m.
Those attending the broadcast can also pick up a free copy of The Timeless Institute, a chillout compilation of emerging electronic artists curated by the renowned DJ Woody McBride, aka DJ ESP (Limited Edition).

Mary Lucia has earned a large fan base with her work as an on-air personality, writer, actor and voice-over talent. Lucia began her media career doing nights at the Twin Cities alternative music station REV 105, co-hosted mornings on ABC's Zone 105, and hosted a talk show on the region's 1500 KSTP AM. From 1998-2001 she hosted the local music show Popular Creeps, a two-time Minnesota Music Award winner for "Best Locally Produced Show." Lucia is closely identified with the vibrant Minnesota music scene and was voted 2006 Best Radio FM Personality, Reader's Choice, by Twin Cities alternative weekly City Pages; and a "Hipster Hero" by Mpls/StPaul magazine. Her passion and knowledge help create the personality of The Current.

Steve Seel has worked at Minnesota Public Radio since April 1999 as a host for both Classical 24, a nationally syndicated classical program, and for Minnesota Public Radio's regional classical music service. In addition, he is an ace producer, leading projects to help sustain the sound and viability of the service. He has a wide knowledge of music—from classical to rock, experimental and jazz—and is an accomplished singer-songwriter.
