Minnesota Public Radio's The Current Fakebook Series Welcomes Chuck Klosterman and Musical Guests Tapes 'n Tapes Friday, February 23

January 17, 2007

WHAT: Minnesota Public Radio's newest series, The Current Fakebook, welcomes rock critic and author Chuck Klosterman to Minnesota Public Radio's The Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul on Friday, February 23. He will join The Current host Mary Lucia for a discussion about pop culture, metal bands and whatever else comes up when two rock 'n' roll wits come together onstage.

Musical guests Tapes 'n Tapes, the "it" band from the Twin Cities, makes this a Current Fakebook not to miss.

About The Current Fakebook series
The Current Fakebook series brings together writers and rockers for an evening of music and insights inspired by the written word. The series takes its name from "fakebooks," collections that contain the basic framework of songs—lyrics, melodies and chord progressions—from which musicians improvise or learn a song on the spot, and in so doing create the song afresh.

The Current Fakebook series takes place at The Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, a cabaret setting where dancing and cocktails are welcome in the aisles. Past series guests include John Hodgman, Neal Pollack, Amy Sedaris, the Poison Control Center and Bound Stems.

About Chuck Klosterman
Chuck Klosterman is an American pop-culture journalist, critic, and essayist. He is the author of Fargo Rock City: A Heavy Metal Odyssey in Rural North Dakota; Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs: A Low Culture Manifesto; and Killing Yourself to Live: 85% of a True Story. He is a columnist for Esquire, and a contributor to The New York Times Magazine. He has also written for The New York Times Book Review, The Believer, The Washington Post, The Akron Beacon Journal, The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead, Gear, Blender, Film Comment, The Village Voice, and GQ and was a senior writer for SPIN. Fargo Rock City, his first book, chronicles his life growing up in North Dakota and in love with eighties hair metal bands.

About Tapes 'n Tapes
Tapes 'n Tapes is a Minneapolis band that has released two albums, the self-released Tapes 'n Tapes followed by the full-length, The Loon. The latter brought a wave of critical acclaim, including a "best new music" plaudit from Pitchfork, which has led to national touring success and an appearance on Late Night with David Letterman. The band draws frequent comparisons to the Pixies and Pavement.
