Songs by emerging Minnesota artists to be featured each Friday

(St. Paul, Minn.)—January 8, 2007—Minnesota Public Radio's The Current announced today it will launch a new podcast, "The Current's Song of the Day"—a free new music download available each weekday starting January 8, 2007.
Visitors to The Current's Web site—thecurrent.org—will be treated to stellar tracks, exclusive performances, rare cuts and previews of anticipated releases by favorite artists—available as free downloads. In addition, songs from emerging Minnesota artists will be featured each Friday, providing a chance for listeners to sample the best of the Twin Cities music scene.
Each weekday at 10 a.m. CST, The Current host Barb Abney will feature the song of the day during her live DJ shift, which can be heard on the radio and via the live Web stream, thecurrent.org.

Listen to The Current's live broadcast March 15-16, 2007, from the South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival in Austin, Texas. The Current's award-winning DJ Mary Lucia will present festival updates and a showcase of bands performing throughout the festival.
