Songs by emerging Minnesota artists to be featured each Friday

(St. Paul, Minn.)—January 8, 2007—Minnesota Public Radio's The Current announced today it will launch a new podcast, "The Current's Song of the Day"—a free new music download available each weekday starting January 8, 2007.
Visitors to The Current's Web site—thecurrent.org—will be treated to stellar tracks, exclusive performances, rare cuts and previews of anticipated releases by favorite artists—available as free downloads. In addition, songs from emerging Minnesota artists will be featured each Friday, providing a chance for listeners to sample the best of the Twin Cities music scene.
Each weekday at 10 a.m. CST, The Current host Barb Abney will feature the song of the day during her live DJ shift, which can be heard on the radio and via the live Web stream, thecurrent.org.

The Current to broadcast live from SXSW 2007
Listen to The Current's live broadcast March 15-16, 2007, from the South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival in Austin, Texas. The Current's award-winning DJ Mary Lucia will present festival updates and a showcase of bands performing throughout the festival. Concert attendees will be invited to the free broadcast from The Orbit Lounge at Buffalo Billiards, 201 E. 6th St., Austin, Texas. Check thecurrent.org for broadcast updates.
The Current's live broadcast from SXSW 2007 can be heard via radio on KCMP 89.3 FM in the Twin Cities (repeating on 99.7 FM in Hinckley), KMSE 88.7 FM in Rochester, Minn. and via a live Web stream on thecurrent.org.
