Minnesota Public Radio Extends Broadcast of Music and News Programming to Hinckley Area

Listeners in the Hinckley region, between the Twin Cities and Duluth, will be able to tune in news, classical music and The Current programming

January 5, 2007

(St. Paul, Minn.) January 5, 2007 — Minnesota Public Radio announced today it has extended its news and music programming to listeners in the Hinckley, Minn. area through four new translator stations. Translators are a class of low-power FM transmitters that extend the reach and fill gaps in the service area of full-power FM stations.

Hinckley listeners are now able to tune their radios to Minnesota Public Radio:

  • News: 106.5 FM and 93.1 FM in Hinckley (repeating KNOW in the Twin Cities and WSCN in Duluth)
  • Classical Minnesota Public Radio: 104.5 FM in Hinckley (repeating KSJN in the Twin Cities)
  • The Current: 97.5 FM in Hinckley (repeating KCMP in the Twin Cities)

"Minnesota Public Radio is proud to bring our three services to Hinckley," said Sarah Lutman, senior vice president for Content and Media. "The translators bring MPR to parts of the state where coverage is spotty, particularly for travelers driving on I-35 between the Twin Cities to Duluth. We're also excited to begin extending The Current into new territory."

Funding for the construction of the Hinckley translator stations was provided through a public radio grant from the State of Minnesota, which MPR dedicated to this and other capital investment projects in Greater Minnesota.
