Listeners Vote Online Now Through December 15, 2006, for Their Favorite Releases
Current DJs Countdown The Top 89 of 2006 on
New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1, 2007
November 22, 2006
WHAT: For music fans everywhere, the drill is the same: New Year's Day approaches and critics decree the Top 10 music releases from the past year. Taking a more egalitarian approach, The Current is asking its listeners to choose the year's best.
Now through December 15, 2006, listeners are asked to name their favorite releases by voting on The Current’s Web site: http://www.mpr.org/top89/. Once the votes are tallied, The Top 89 of 2006 (as chosen by The Current's listeners) will be revealed on the air New Year's Day.
Everyone who votes is automatically entered to win an 80 gig video iPod and 89 downloads courtesy of The Current and Popular Front. The Web site also includes Top 10 lists from The Current DJs, including Mary Lucia, Mark Wheat, Steve Seel and Barb Abney.
TUNE IN: Starting at 10 a.m. on New Year's Day, Monday, January 1, 2007, DJs Barb Abney, Steve Seel, Mary Lucia and Mark Wheat will count down The Current's Top 89 of 2006. On January 2, listeners can download a PDF of the Top 89 and the countdown will be rebroadcast on Sunday, January 7, 2007, starting at 9 a.m.
The Current can be heard on KCMP 89.3 FM in the Twin Cities, KMSE 88.7 FM in Rochester, and online at www.mpr.org/thecurrent.
