Minnesota Public Radio Launches Online Legislative Voters Guide

New feature added to MPR's extensive online campaign resources

(St. Paul, Minn.) November 3, 2006—Minnesota Public Radio announced today a new feature on its Web site, www.mpr.org, the Legislative Voters Guide.

The Legislative Voters Guide is a tool enabling Minnesota voters to enter their zip codes and find information on candidates running in their Congressional, house and senate legislative districts. Information includes district maps, a brief district profile, candidate photos and biographies, links to campaign Web sites, links to voting resources and links to additional MPR coverage of local races.

The Legislative Voters Guide is one of many resources available on Minnesota Public Radio's Web site, designed to provide the most comprehensive, user-friendly information to voters in the upcoming elections.

Voters are encouraged to engage in MPR's award-winning campaign coverage online:

ELECTION NIGHT 2006

NEW: Policy and a Pint, a live event at The UBS Forum with All Things Considered host Tom Crann and The Current host Steve Seel, featuring a live audio and video stream, interviews, live music, trivia, quizzes and more.

Election Returns with data from the Minnesota Secretary of State will display regularly updated returns from the races for governor, U.S. Senate, Congress, state legislature and more. Also available will be instant "balance of power" ratios, displaying which party leads the state and federal legislature; continuous updates of news, features and commentary; and live News & Information audio streaming.

VOTER TOOLS

NEW: The MPR Election Results Widget, a free, customizable JavaScript module available to interested persons for use on their Web sites, yielding the latest election results for all major and state-level races.

Select A Candidate, a tool to help voters choose candidates most closely aligned with their views; available for the Minnesota U.S. Senate, Governor, Attorney General and four U.S. Congressional districts.

Votetracker, which makes it possible to follow key legislation, read background, see MPR-related stories and find out how legislators voted on the issues.

KEEP UP WITH THE CAMPAIGNS

NEW: The View from the Fence, a group of swing voters to share their thoughts on this election season. These bloggers keep up with politics and have all voted across party lines in the last several elections.

Gubernatorial and U.S. Senatorial Debates, November 5, 7-9 p.m., streamed online from the live FINAL debates at MPR's Fitzgerald Theater.

Campaign 2006 Web site, a compendium of all of MPR's coverage since the campaigns began to heat up months ago. You'll find the latest election and political news along with all the features, speeches and debates from the past several months.

Polinaut, a regularly updated, non-partisan political blog featuring a "daily digest" of media coverage and contributions by MPR political correspondents Bob Collins and Tom Scheck.

Policast, downloadable MP3 files which bring highlights of regional political coverage, hosted by MPR's political editor Mike Mulcahy.
