Minnesota International Piano-e-Competition Winner — Edisher Savitski of the Republic of Georgia — to Perform Noon Recital Today at The Fitzgerald Theater

TICKETS: FREE and open to the public Join MPR host Melissa Ousley and special guests Mayor Chris Coleman and pianist Awadagin Pratt for a recital given by the winner of the Minnesota International Piano-e-Competition, Edisher Savitski.

Six semi-finalists from Russia, the Republic of Georgia, Canada, Israel and the United States performed in live concerts this week with the Minnesota Orchestra at Orchestra Hall on July 12 and 13, both of which were broadcast live on all of Classical Minnesota Public Radio's stations, including KSJN 99.5 FM. The winner was announced late last night.

The 29-year-old Savitski began his piano career at the age of three in the Republic of Georgia and studied with Nana Khubutia at Tbilisi State Conservatory. Savitski has been living in Indiana since 1998, when he joined the acclaimed piano studio of Alexander Toradze at Indiana University South Bend. He will begin his doctoral studies at Michigan State University next fall.

Today's free noon concert will be winner Savitski's first public recital after two weeks of competition covered in depth by Classical Minnesota Public Radio.

In 2002, the Minnesota International Piano-e-Competition, headquartered in Minneapolis, was the first competitive musical event to utilize the Yamaha Disklavier PRO (www.yamaha.com) in transmitting and storing live performances. The technology enables pianists access to participate in the semi-finals from multiple locations around the world.
