Minnesota Public Radio Announces High Definition Radio Broadcasting in Rochester
June 30, 2006
(Rochester, Minn.) June 30, 2006 — Minnesota Public Radio announced today that, as of Thursday evening, News station KZSE 90.7 FM and Classical music station KLSE 91.7 FM in Rochester began broadcasting in high-definition (HD) digital sound.
With the addition of HD radio, listeners will be able to enjoy improved broadcasts of news and classical music programming. To hear KZSE and KLSE's HD service, listeners will need a radio capable of picking up the digital radio signal. As stations across the country add HD broadcast capability, HD-ready receivers are becoming more available and increasingly affordable.
"HD radio provides our audience with an enhanced listening experience," said Chris Cross, Minnesota Public Radio southeast district manager. "Making this service available is yet another example of Minnesota Public Radio investing in the latest technology to deliver the highest quality news and cultural programming to listeners throughout the state."
In the Twin Cities, Classical music station KSJN 99.5 FM launched HD radio in June 2005, followed by News station KNOW 91.1 FM in November 2005. Classical music station KSJR 90.1 FM and News station KNSR 88.9 FM in Collegeville moved to HD radio in January 2006.
HD radio will be added at other Minnesota Public Radio stations across the state as funding permits.
HD radio equipment at Minnesota Public Radio is funded, in part, by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and by support from individuals and corporations to Minnesota Public Radio.
