its largest capital campaign ever
Most of $46 million campaign will fund expanded broadcast and production center
in downtown St. Paul; rest will support new programming initiatives

Minnesota Public Radio today made public its $46 million capital campaign, the largest in its history. Designed to set The Next Standard in public radio broadcasting, the campaign funds will be used to expand Minnesota Public Radio's facilities in downtown St. Paul and strengthen its technological infrastructure ($41 million); and to invest in new programming initiatives ($5 million).

Minnesota Public Radio aims to reach the $46 million goal by December 2005. The capital campaign will support Minnesota Public Radio's plan to create a timely, relevant agenda that will set the next standard, both regionally and nationally, of what public radio can and should be. The plan seeks to:
  • Expand and redesign Minnesota Public Radio's facilities to fully accommodate and increase interaction among its production staff, and to allow its staff and audiences to interact collaboratively with one another;
  • Strengthen Minnesota Public Radio's technological infrastructure to make programming available when, where and how its audiences want it, and to readily adapt to future changes;
  • Invest in new programming initiatives;
  • Preserve its 37-year collection of programming and Minnesota's aural history with a digitized archival system, made available to the public.
